Chapter Overview

Description

Symphony of Secrets follows Bern Hendricks, a Delaney Foundation “DF Kid” turned musicologist, who is summoned to New York to authenticate and prepare a newly discovered original score of Frederic Delaney’s infamous lost opera, RED. What begins as a career-defining dream quickly becomes an investigation into why the opera vanished, why Delaney’s late work collapsed, and what the Foundation is hiding behind nondisclosure agreements and locked archives.

As Bern and his tech-savvy friend Eboni Washington dig into Delaney’s cryptic “Doodles,” they uncover traces of Josephine Reed—a Black woman erased from the historical record. Their search turns into a dangerous battle over ownership, truth, and legacy, as the Delaney Foundation tightens its grip through intimidation and legal threats. The story alternates between modern-day sleuthing and historical chapters that reveal how Josephine and “Freddy” Delaney built genius together—and how greed and fear tore it apart.
