OpenAI to press ahead with data-centre expansion despite midterm sweep, CFO says

OpenAI's Chief Financial Officer, Sarah Friar, has stated that the company will continue its US data-centre expansion plans despite the Democratic midterm sweep, which has fuelled fears of increased scrutiny of the facilities. The company has been working to win over communities and will no longer use non-disclosure agreements with public officials when negotiating or discussing future sites, and give residents access to construction plans and potential effects. Despite the backlash, tech giants like Google and ByteDance remain committed to data-center expansion plans. Despite this, OpenAI is raising fresh capital and considering expanding a data centre project in Brazil to strengthen its standing as Latin America's leading builder of computing facilities.

71% of ChatGPT citations go to sites missing from Google’s first page, OMNIFAMOUS 2M citation study finds – Idaho News Updates

The rise of AI-powered search is changing how brands, publishers, and websites are discovered online, but not necessarily being cited or recommended by generative AI systems. A study by OMNIFAMOUS, the AI visibility platform founded by Jorge Ferreiro, found that 71% of ChatGPT citations went to sites missing from Google’s first page, while only 14.8% of Google AI Mode retained only 14%. The study also found significant changes in domains cited over the three-month period. The study suggests that AI-generated answers can change significantly over short periods, making citation stability a challenge for organisations seeking to remain discoverable online. The findings reinforce the importance of generative engine optimization as online discovery expands beyond conventional search pages.

Can artificial rain clear Delhi's toxic air? More cloud-seeding trials after Diwali

The Delhi government is considering another round of cloud-seeding trials after Diwali and Chhath Puja in an attempt to provide temporary relief to worsening air quality in the national capital. The move comes as Delhi continues to record high pollution levels, with the city's average Air Quality Index (AQI) ranking at 367. Additional trials are likely after Dihali if pollution levels continue to deteriorate further. Cloud seeding involves dispersing substances such as silver iodide and sodium chloride into suitable clouds to stimulate the formation of water droplets or ice crystals, potentially triggering rainfall. However, cloud seeding is dependent on suitable weather and cloud conditions, and is not considered a substitute for controlling the sources of pollution. The city's primary challenge is controlling emissions from vehicles, construction activities, industries, waste burning and seasonal agricultural fires.

GRAP 3 in Delhi-NCR: Check list of Vehicle Bans, School Modes, and Office Restrictions

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has invoked Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi and surrounding NCR districts as the regional air quality index (AQI) has dropped towards the'severe' category. The precautionary measure was triggered after the capital’s 24-hour average AQI reached 382, up from 369 the previous day. This comes just four days after Stage II bans were implemented due to worsening meteorological conditions and increasing particulate concentration. The Commission has recommended schools for hybrid classes (online + offline) for students up to Class 5, and strict restriction on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel light motor vehicles in Delhi. An advisory has been issued to implement 50% Work from Home (WFH) capacity across various offices and stop on stone crushers, mining activities, and non-essential demolition or construction. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with chronic respiratory or cardiovascular conditions, have been advised to avoid outdoor exertion and use high-filtration masks outdoors.

Mixed fundamentals, aluminium prices expected to consolidate on a moderate note

The US Federal Reserve has decided to keep the federal funds rate unchanged at 3.75%-4%, excluding China, at its October FOMC meeting. The decision was supported by Governor Cook and Cleveland Fed President Hammack, who advocated for a 25-basil point increase. The University of Michigan's October Consumer Confidence Index came in at 48.0, near a record low. Despite rebounding to 91.7, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East continued to drive up energy prices. The probability of a 25 basis point increase in December is expected to put pressure on dollar-denominated base metals. On the supply side, China's operating aluminium capacity remained high and weekly aluminium production increased slightly. However, LME aluminium inventories remained near 229,000 tonnes, a near 20-year low. Aluminium prices are expected to consolidate with a subdued tone in the near term.
