How AI is supercharging fraud and making scams impossible to detect

Cybersecurity experts have warned that artificial intelligence is making fraud nearly impossible to detect and making it faster and more sophisticated. Chester Wisniewski, a cybersecurity specialist at Sophos, has 30 years of experience and warns that scammers are targeting their victims via social media platforms, text messages, emails, voice cloning, and phone calls. The ease with which criminals are stealing personal information is also being cited as alarming. Ark Mines Reports High Rare Earth Extraction Rates from Sandy Mitchell Concentrate Testwork - Sharecafe

Ark Mines Ltd, an Australian mineral exploration and development company focused on critical minerals, has reported high rare earth extraction rates from its Sandy Mitchell Rare Earth Elements and Heavy Minerals Project in North Queensland. Scoping-level tests conducted by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) have confirmed the high amenability of the monazite concentrate to conventional processing methods. The ANSTO testwork demonstrated impressive light rare earth (LRE) extraction rates, achieving between 98% and 99% from milled concentrate using acid bake and water leach methods. These results were specific to the monzite concentrate and do not include recovery of monazites from ore. The company is now moving towards producing a mixed rare earth carbonate (MREC) product.

Gold holds near nine-week low as Hormuz tensions raise Fed hike bets

Gold prices have risen after falling to their lowest level since early August due to increased tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. This has led to increased inflation risks and increased expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates again this year. The White House is considering military strikes against Iranian targets ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. The People's Bank of China increased its gold reserves by 740,000 ounces in September, marking its 23rd consecutive accumulation. Higher Treasury yields and a stronger dollar have also contributed to investor demand for gold. However, central bank demand has provided an important cushion, with strong buying by central banks helping limit losses.

US lawmakers flag China links of trading app

A bipartisan congressional investigation by the House Select Committee on China has raised national security concerns about the China-linked ownership, technology operations and data practices of online brokerage Webull. The committee alleges that the Florida-based trading platform has not been transparent about its connections to China and its ownership structure, technical workforce, technology infrastructure, cross-border data arrangements and financing were closely connected to China. The report did not itself impose sanctions, trading restrictions or penalties on the company.

Revealed: how this common gut microbe protects against heart disease - United Kingdom

A study by Wenjing Zhao, a microbiologist at Sun Yat-sen University in Shenzhen, China, has revealed that a common gut microbe, Bacteroides uniformis, manufactures a molecule that reduces cholesterol levels and reduces plaque in arteries. The compound, given to mice, reduced the animals’ arterial plaque by about half and used the same biological action as that of statins. The study suggests new ways in which people’s collection of gut microorganisms, known as their microbiome, might be used to protect the heart. The research also suggests that the gut microbiome can influence vascular health, suggesting a potential causal biological mechanism.
