Scientists develop new way to tackle key quantum computing challenge
Scientists at the Raman Research Institute in Bengaluru have developed a new technique to increase the stability of the quantum states that enable computation in a quantum computer. The research team used “quantum entanglement” a property in which two particles become “linked” (or entangled) together in a way that they behave like one single system. This creates a problem for quantum computing as these states quickly disintegrates, a phenomenon known as decoherence. Instead of repeated corrective interventions, Urbasi Sinha's team developed a “single-shot operation” that could delay or prevent this phenomenon. This operation can also be used as a control tool to protect fragile quantum states. The results of experiments have been published in a paper in the American Physical Society’s Physical Review A.
