Rise in reports of suspected adverse reactions to medicines in 2025
Health authorities in Ireland received 8,565 reports of suspected adverse reactions to human medicines in 2025, the highest figure in three years. However, this figure is expected to remain below the previous year's levels of 2021 and 2022. Antineoplastic medicines, including immune-modulating medicines, monoclonal antibodies and endocrine medicines, were the majority of reports made to the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA). 932 reports related to the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, while 601 were linked to psycholeptic medicines. Of the reports received by the HPRA, 101 patients were reported to have died following treatment with a suspect medicine. The HPRA also authorised 473 new human medicines last year and issued 95 authorisations for clinical trials of human medicines under the EU Clinical Trials Regulation. The authority also recalled 54 medicines, 41 human and 13 veterinary.

Strike averted as Shoreline school staff reach agreement with district
The Shoreline Educational Support Professionals Association (SESPA) has reached a tentative agreement with the district preventing a strike that would have resulted in school closures starting on Monday, Sept. 14. Over 300 paraeducators, technical and health staff, security guards and secretaries representing SESPA will return to work. The union had voted to strike if the district failed to meet its demands, but was prepared to negotiate through 8 p.m. Sunday to avoid striking.

A court in Hyderabad has sentenced a Cotton Corporation officer and his wife to prison for accumulating assets beyond their known income. The case began in November 2016 and the CBI filed a chargesheet against the accused on May 7, 2018. Prasads was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a four-year sentence, while Priyanks received a four year sentence and a fine of $50,000.

Children in flood-hit Nepal grapple with loss, cling to hope

Save the Children has reported that 540 children have been separated from parents and are living in relief camps in flood-affected areas. The government has committed to guaranteeing education through high school for affected children and establishing a $6.5-million scholarship fund for students affected by the floods.
