Flock cut default camera-data retention from 30 days to 7 — and its own numbers say the other 23 days were never doing any work
Flock Safety has cut its default retention period for license-plate-reader data from 30 days to seven, making misuse detection mandatory for every law-enforcement customer and requiring a case code on every search by the end of the year. This follows a Washington Post investigation that found nearly 50 instances of officers being charged with or accused of running unauthorized searches. The company's own telemetry indicates that the other 23 days of the 30-day period were never doing any work. Critics, including the ACLU, Center for Democracy and Technology, and GWU Law, called for sustained democratic engagement and judicial checks. However, the retention number is still a setting on someone else's dashboard.

Israeli strike kills seven in south Lebanon, state news reports
Israeli dawn air strike in southern Lebanon killed seven people and injured three others, according to Lebanon's National News Agency. The strike is one of the deadliest attacks on Lebanon since it agreed to a U.S.-mediated peace framework with Israel, which leaves Israeli troops in occupied southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed and the Lebanese army takes control. Hezbollah has rejected these terms as surrender. Israel's military seized a swath of south Lebanon during a war with Hezbollah earlier this year, but plans to keep its forces there to protect northern Israel from further attacks. At least 4,300 people have been killed in Lebanon since March 2.
