Egypt and Turkey: Rapidly growing alliance putting old rivalry aside and alarming Israel

Egypt and Turkey, two of the Middle East's largest powers, have been reconciling for over a decade before restoring diplomatic relations three years ago. The two countries have been meeting regularly and participating in joint war games, bringing together their navies, special forces, and air forces. They are also deepening their partnership in arms manufacturing, with Egypt acquiring Turkish drone technology and Ankara receiving reliable Egyptian fighting vehicles and air defence systems. The countries also co-ordinate exports of their locally manufactured weapons in Africa and parts of the Arab world. Despite tensions, Egypt and Turkey disagree on some regional issues, including Turkey's influence and military presence in Syria. Egypt also supports a proposed peacekeeping force in Somalia and supports the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan's three-year civil war.

Ukrainian drone attacks have killed seven warehouse workers and injured dozens more in Russia, according to regional governors. The attacks targeted warehouses owned by Russian online retailer Wildberries, killing seven workers and injuring 25 others. The governor of the Moscow region, Evgeniy Pervyshov, stated that seven workers working the night shift were killed on the spot and 28 drones were also shot down. In separate incidents, 24 people were injured following a drone attack on another Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal, an east of Moscow, causing a fire at an oil depot. In Noginsk, also in the Moscow area, falling drone debris caused a fire to break out at an Exxon depot. Wildberries co-founder and CEO, Tatyana Kim, described the incident as a "terrible night" for Russia and for the company.

Andhra Pradesh

Google's India AI Hub, a $15 billion artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure project, is set to be completed by 2028 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project is being developed by Google subsidiary Raiden Infotech in partnership with AdaniConnex and Airtel’s Nxtra. The Andhra state has also allotted 855 acres at Bhogapuram in neighbouring Vizianagaram district to Reliance Industries for a 1.5 GW data centre. However, environmental groups have warned that these energy-intensive facilities could strain the region's natural resources and ecosystems. The state has offered generous incentives to Google and Reliance, including land allotment at a 25 per cent concession on market value, capital subsidies, exemptions from stamp duty and registration charges, reimbursement of State GST, and exemptions on power and water tariffs. However critics question whether these tech giants will generate enough jobs to justify the generous incentives.

Supreme Court Clarifies Voter List Deletion Does Not Affect Indian Citizenship

The Supreme Court of India has clarified that the removal of a person's name from the electoral roll does not result in the loss of Indian citizenship. The court stated that voting rights and citizenship are two distinct legal issues and the final authority to determine a person’s citizenship rests solely with the Central Government under the due process of law. This clarification came during the hearing of petitions related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, where several individuals alleged that their names had been removed from the voter list without proper justification. The Supreme Court stated that while the Election Commission has the constitutional authority to verify citizenship for the purpose of preparing electoral rolls, such verification does not amount to a determination of citizenship.

UK Police investigate claims Chinese Embassy staff used stun batons on Tibetan protesters

The UK Metropolitan Police is investigating allegations that the Chinese Embassy in London used high-voltage stun batons, classified as prohibited weapons under UK law, to intimidate peaceful Tibetan demonstrators during a candlelight vigil outside the embassy. The incident occurred on the evening of July 3 outside the Chinese embassy in central London. The Metropolitan Police responded after videos were released by London-based advocacy group Free Tibet. The confrontation has raised concerns about alleged transnational repression by Beijing, with Tibetan organisations and rights groups describing it as an example of intimidation extending beyond China's borders. The Guardian has reported that the incident has reignited political debate over the proposed Chinese mega-embassy, which critics argue could increase concerns over the safety and freedom of exiled communities and activists in Britain.

Skyroots Vikram-1 lifts-off from Sriharikota, Indias private space era officially begins

Skyroot Aerospace successfully launched Vikram-1, India's first privately developed orbital-class rocket, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. The launch represents a significant shift in India's space narrative, opening the door for private enterprise to access. The 24-metre carbon-composite rocket is powered by a sophisticated configuration of three solid-fuel stages and a liquid orbital adjustment module, designed to deploy payloads up to 350 kg into a 450-km Low Earth Orbit. The first cargo was a lab-grown diamond from Bengaluru-based Cosmos Diamonds, demonstrating that this new infrastructure is ready for commercial application. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the launch as a "historic new frontier" in India’s space journey and a reflection of the youth’talent and entrepreneurial spirit.

New 'dodgy' Firestick warning issued as more arrests made in UK-wide crackdown

More arrests have been made in a UK-wide crackdown on illegal Fire Sticks and modified streaming boxes, which offer users unauthorised access to premium content from providers like Sky, Netflix, Disney+, and TNT Sports for free. These devices are considered a serious crime under the law and potentially liable for prosecution under Section 11 of the Fraud Act 2006. Four men have been arrested in Merseyside following a two-day operation by police targeting the suspected supply of illegal streaming services to thousands of customers. The arrests followed six search warrants and three men were initially arrested on June 25, including a 47-year-old from Birkenhead and two men, aged 41 and 56, from Prenton. All three are suspected of supplying unauthorisation access to TV, films, and live sports to a large customer base. Those caught using or selling a 'dodgy' fire stick/box and streaming premium content without paying are in breach of Section 11 under Section11 of the fraud Act 2006, which could result in fines or a jail sentence of up to five years. The operation was led by the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT), the UK's leading anti-piracy body.

A Texas prosecutor reveals new details in an ICE killing of a Houston father

A federal prosecutor in Texas has revealed new details about the moments before an immigration officer shot and killed a Mexican national and longtime U.S. resident, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, on July 7. The revelation complicates the government's claim that Salgado Arrajo had hit an ICE vehicle before he was shot. Aaron Reitz, the U.K. attorney for the Southern District of Texas, revealed that ICE officers were targeting two Guatemalan men who were potentially subject to deportation and were driving a van similar to the one Salgado Araujo was driving when he was killed. The shooting sparked protests in Houston, with Salgado's family calling for transparency. The most recent statement from the US attorney's office did not mention any collision between Salgado Agujo's van and a law enforcement vehicle.

'This Is The Future Of Railway Mobility'

India's first hydrogen train has been launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2026, with 10 coaches, far more than most global hydrogen trains. The launch took place at a redeveloped Jind station, with crowds eager to board the Namo Green Rail. The train carries a small power plant onboard, a Proton Exchange Membrane fuel cell, and can run up to 110 km if the track's permitted speed limits are met. It takes four hours to refuel at the nearby hydrogen plant, which stores nearly 3,000 kg of hydrogen at a time and dispenses it through two independent hydrogen dispensers at a regulated pressure of 350 bar. The pilot cabin is designed to be similar to a regular EMU unit (multiple multiple unit) and has been trained for this occasion.
