Italy's Banks Slide as the State Reopens the Wallet-Why This -0.9% Move Could Be the Start of Something Bigger
Italy's FTSE MIB closed at 0.95% on Tuesday, a significant drop for the banking sector as the state prepares to approve its draft budget. The government is relying on lenders to help fund its 2026-2028 budget plans. The banking sector's weakness was sharper than the broad market, with the banking index dropping 1.3% and the blue-chip index dropping 0.9%. The extension of the DTA freeze does not increase the overall tax burden on the banks, but it remains a concern for investors.

Warren Calls It 'Corrupt': Commerce Eases UAE Chip Rules Days After Trump-Linked Crypto Deal
The US Commerce Department has relaxed the UAE's export rules, effectively transferring license-free exports, reexports, and in-country transfers for covered items. The rule takes effect on July 14, following reports of a $263 million windfall tied to MGX. The UAE no longer requires licenses for AI chips and servers, and the Bureau of Industry Control (BIIS) will review semiconductor and server applications involving MGX for consideration. The change means that G42 and Core42, plus U.S. firms operating in the country, no longer need licenses for these products. However, larger projects still face stricter review. The move is seen as a strategic rerating of the UAE, not a personal favor, and Commerce has tied it to its Major Defense Partner status and its role in Operation Epic Fury. The next signal to watch is first shipments.
