Why Singaporean Married Couples Live Apart After Marriage - Newsy Today
In Singapore, newly married couples are choosing to live apart while waiting for Build-To-Order (BTO) flats. This trend, described by Professor Sumit Agarwal as a “Singaporean adjustment to economic reality”, highlights how the national housing system has become an institutional gateway for long-term wealth. The BTO system is central to how couples plan their futures, offering access to subsidized housing, Central Provident Fund (CPF) usage, and asset ownership. However, delays in obtaining a flat can lead to delays in marriage, which may postpone starting a family. This could lead to a historic low in Singapore's total fertility rate of 0.87 in 2025.

What We Get Wrong About Thanking Others
New research by colleagues Madalyn Cauble, Don Davis, Alexis Pandelios, Jonah Li, Nayoung Cho, and I have found that verbal and behavioral gratitude are distinct forms of thanking. While most research has focused on what people say, not what they do, these findings suggest that thanking others can benefit the people doing it, deepening relationships, elicit positive responses from others, and support our well-being. The researchers used a statistical approach called factor analysis to determine whether different expressions of gratitude belonged together or reflected distinct patterns. They found that while verbal and behavioural expressions were positively linked to positive outcomes for the people receiving the thank, they were not. The authors suggest that while traditional forms of thank are often misunderstood, behavioral ones require more effort and thoughtfulness than words. They also suggest that making meaningful behavioral gratitude requires careful attention to the recipient's needs.

Despite eBay rejecting GameStop's offer in May, Cohen has publicly advocated for the acquisition and plans to contribute $500 million of his own money to support the deal. The company plans to release additional information later this week outlining the strategic rationale and operational plans for a combined company.

The Opdivo immunotherapy, a PD-1 blocking antibody, has become a core option in advanced melanoma and several other solid tumors. The drug has been approved in many markets and has been used as a powerful tool in immunotherapy for patients with less traditional options. OpDivo can be given as monotherapy or in combination with another checkpoint inhibitor, often ipilimumab, to deepen response rates at the cost of higher immune-related toxicity. Side effects such as rash, colitis, thyroid dysfunction, and hepatitis are among the more frequent immune related adverse events with PD-L1. Op Divo is typically dosed on a weight-based or fixed-schedule regimen, with common options including 240 mg every two weeks or 480 mg every four weeks for adults.
