Walmart CEO John Furner says even wealthy shoppers are now shopping at the discount grocery chain as high prices stretch six-figure earners ...Middle East
Walmart CEO John Furner has stated that even wealthy shoppers are now shopping at the discount grocery chain due to high prices that are affecting even the largest earners in the country. This comes as food costs rise due to rising oil prices, tariffs, and global trade uncertainty. Furner noted that lower-income shoppers are showing more signs of stress due to the current economy and that more six-figure earners are turning to discount grocery chains. Despite Walmart's dominance as America's largest food retailer, it has been able to absorb fuel cost increases and keep prices competitively lower. However, this could change if gas prices continue to remain at its high. Food costs continue to rise, with the median price of a cold brew coffee increasing 3.7% since May 2025 and burgers 2.4% in the same time.

IEP - Record Conflicts Drive Peace to Historic Low as AI warfare surges
The 2026 Global Peace Index (GPI) has been released by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) and reveals that record-high number of conflicts are impacting global peace. The number of active, state-based conflicts has reached 61,000, the highest number since the end of the Second World War, and internal conflict deaths have risen by sixfold since 2007. This is driven by a significant geopolitical shift, driven by the increasing influence of middle powers and the waning strength of traditional European powers. Rapid technological revolution in warfare is also leaving international law and diplomacy far behind. The report also revealed that the economic impact of violence worldwide rose by 3.2% to a record US$21.81 trillion, equivalent to 10.5% of global GDP. Despite these challenges, Iceland remains the most peaceful country globally, followed by New Zealand, Switzerland, Slovenia and Ireland. For the first time, Russia is the least peaceful globally.

China's trade engine revs up as exporters ride AI wave
China's export growth accelerated in May, driven by strong demand for chips, autos, and other high-tech goods fuelling the global AI boom. Exports expanded by 19.4% from the previous year, outpacing the 14.1% gain in April and a 15% rise tipped by economists. However, signs are emerging that stockpiling linked to higher energy costs is waning, with prices rising and overseas buyers starting to reduce inventories. China's exports also surged by 66.1%, high-demand for high-technology products rose 50.9%, and shipment of cars jumped 39%. However, there are signs of waning momentum, raising concerns about China's fragile domestic demand leaving it exposed to weaker global conditions. The country's trade surplus came in at $105.43 billion in May.

Trump warns Netanyahu: ‘You’ll be on your own’ if attacks on Iran continue - Jamaica Inquirer – Daily Jamaica News
US President Donald Trump has warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that if Israel returns to war with Iran, he may be on his own if Israel continues to engage in conflict. The warning came as Israel and Iran agreed to halt attacks following the most serious escalation since a ceasefire in April. Both sides had previously stated that any peace deal with the US depends on an end to the fighting in Lebanon. The flare-up began on Sunday after Israel's deadly bombardment of Beirut, and Iran responded with a wave of missiles at northern Israel. Israeli forces struck Iranian air defence systems and a petrochemical plant, while Iran retaliated by hitting a similar facility in Haifa and targeting two Israeli airbases. The tensions have complicated efforts by both sides to end a war launched by the US and Israel on February 28.

Vance recommends DOJ criminal investigation into Tim Walz and Minnesota AG over state’s fraud scandal
Vice President JD Vance, who leads the White House anti-fraud task force, has referred allegations of complicity in fraud in Minnesota, including those of Democratic Gov. Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison, to the Department of Justice for criminal investigation. Vance has referred the allegations against top state officials to the Justice Department’s fraud division, which is run by Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald. The fraud allegations have put pressure on Walz, who denied allegations that his administration ignored financial abuse.

However, the company has been losing more money than it makes due to the high costs of building out the venture.
